15 Weeks leading up to the largest 5K run/walk raising money for breast cancer program in this state for her 15th Anniversary!
The 3rd 15 for 2015 Spotlight
Jamie Goetz
A story of a Survivor that has been a part of every WV Race for the Cure
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000 at the age of
28. At that time I was a single mother
of a four year old daughter. My only
thought was living to raise her and hoping that she would never be
affected.
In May 2001 the first Komen Race for the Cure was being held
in Charleston WV. I was asked by the
news and by the newspaper to give interviews.
I wanted to bring light to this disease because very few women were
being diagnosed at this young age.
Fortunately for me I ran that race and won 1st place
survivor.
Over the last 14 years I have seen this race grow to be one
of the most popular races held in Charleston.
Not only has the number of participants risen, but the number of
survivors also. Each year people are
given an opportunity to support a great cause, remember a loved one and
participate in a walk, run or sleep in for the Cure.
We the survivors look forward to this race because we know
that a cure is one day closer to being found.
Treatments are getting better and long term survival rates have
increased because of the research that can occur and has occurred with the
continued support.
